Charybdis is a spin-off of the University of Messina that was born with 3 main objectives:
maintain and increase the scientific excellence attained in biomedical research by groups working at the University of Messina by extending ongoing collaborations with scientists and managers working for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Provide job opportunities to young professionals that would not find otherwise employment opportunities in the university system.
Provide services that are not are not readily available to large and small companies and to academic research groups in the field of vaccine discovery and biotechnology.
In this difficult tasks we take inspiration from local history and its rich legacy and from the life and achievements of great scientists that made fundamental discoveries in the Strait of Messina area, such as Elie Metchnicoff, who discovered phagocytosis while working in Messina.
